Hastings and Prince Edward Counties / May 1, 2018 – If you have children in a publicly-funded elementary school, check their backpacks this month for a brochure on making healthier choices when eating out! Hastings Prince Edward Public Health is encouraging parents to use the brochure to make informed choices when dining at restaurants.
As a part of the Ontario government’s menu labelling legislation, the Healthy Menu Choices Act, calories are now posted on menus and menu boards in restaurants and food service premises with 20+ locations. In an effort to help parents choose healthier options for themselves and their families, Hastings Prince Edward Public Health is providing education on the Healthy Menu Choices Act along with tips for choosing healthier options.
“Eating out is a reality for busy families,” says Jennine Seaman, Registered Dietitian. “These tips will help parents make informed choices for themselves and their families when eating outside of the home.”
