Rabies is a serious disease that can be spread from animals to people. Rabies in humans is almost always fatal. Rabies in Hastings and Prince Edward Counties is mainly found in bats and foxes, though recently a new strain of rabies known as Raccoon Rabies was located near Hamilton, Ontario.
The best way to protect yourself and your family from rabies is to protect our domestic pets - dogs and cats. It's simple, it's safe and it's the law. Owners of dogs and cats in Ontario are required to have their pets vaccinated against rabies. Fines can be laid for animals not vaccinated.
