Oral Health

Oral health is linked to overall health and well-being. Hastings Prince Edward Public Health can help you connect your patients to oral health services in the community.

More information about HPEPH’s Oral Health Clinics, Ontario’s Healthy Smiles Ontario Program, and our School Screening Program is available below.

Healthy Smiles Ontario

Healthy Smiles Ontario is a government-funded dental program that provides free preventive, routine, and emergency dental services for children and youth 17 years old and under from low-income households.

HPEPH and Service Ontario can assist your patients with application and enrollment. Once clients have completed this process, they can seek treatment from dental health professionals in the community. For more information:

Oral Health Clinics

For Kids

HPEPH offers preventive dental services to children and teens aged 0 to 17 years who cannot afford dental care. Visit our Dental Services for Kids page for more information.

For Seniors

HPEPH offers preventative and restorative dental services for qualifying seniors, through the Ontario Seniors’ Dental Care Program. For more information, visit our Dental Services for Seniors page.

Oral Health School Screening

Oral Health program staff visit all elementary schools in Hastings and Prince Edward Counties each school year, and screen students in certain grades.

Each child screened receives an Oral Health School Screening Report Card. Clients may bring their report card to their dental professional.

South East Health Unit

As of Jan. 1, 2025 Hastings Prince Edward Public Health; Kingston, Frontenac and Lennox & Addington Public Health and the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit will merge to form the South East Health Unit.

Efforts are underway to develop branding for the South East Health Unit, which will take several months. In the meantime, you will see logos and other advertising material with Hastings Prince Edward Public Health branding. You may also see some documents using the legal name South East Health Unit.

Partners and members of the public should continue to engage with their local public health offices as usual until otherwise directed.

Flu, RSV and COVID-19 vaccine clinic

  • RSV clinics for infants up to 12 months of age (must be born in 2024) and eligible toddlers up to 24 months of age (meeting high risk criteria).
