Distributed on behalf of the Quinte Region Traffic Coalition
Hastings and Prince Edward Counties/June 27, 2024
On Tuesday, June 25, partners from the Quinte Region Traffic Coalition (QRTC) participated in the annual ‘Safe on 62’ enforcement initiative focusing on the Highway 62 corridor. In total, officers laid 17 charges, eight of which were speeding charges. Five warnings were also issued.
Additionally, eight commercial motor vehicle inspections were carried out for various offences. Three commercial motor vehicles were marked out of service. There was one court summons issued (driver suspension).
‘Safe on 62’ is part of the QRTC’s ongoing efforts to encourage safe driving practices across Hastings and Prince Edward Counties. Partners within QRTC will continue to work to prevent the “big four” road safety issues that are the main contributors to motor vehicle collision injuries and deaths. These issues include distracted driving, aggressive driving, lack of seatbelt use, alcohol and or drug impaired driving.
Vehicle collisions are preventable! Make safe choices to protect yourself and others around you. As you drive to places this summer, remember to:
- Wear your seatbelt
- Put away your phone and or any other device while driving
- Follow the speed limits on the road
- Please plan in advance for a safe ride home if you intend to use substances
Choose to drive safely to protect yourself, your loved ones, and all others on the road. Even if you are a passenger and you notice a driver engaging in any unsafe behaviour, speak up!
