Hastings and Prince Edward Counties/Oct. 3, 2023
Hastings Prince Edward Public Health (HPEPH) has reached a tentative agreement with Canadian Union of Public (CUPE) Local 3314, which represents approximately 70 unionized staff at HPEPH. CUPE staff have been on strike since Sept. 22, 2023.
The agreement was ratified by CUPE members today. The agreement becomes final once ratified by the HPEPH Board of Health. Until that time, details of the agreement will remain confidential.
“We are very pleased that we have reached an agreement with CUPE,” says Dr. Ethan Toumishey, Medical Officer of Health and CEO. “Our bargaining team has worked tirelessly to reach an agreement that balances the needs of our unionized staff with needs of the organization, community taxpayers, and most importantly, our clients. We are eager to have our staff resume their important work which protects the health and well-being of our residents.”
HPEPH thanks the community for their patience and understanding during the service disruption. HPEPH staff represented by CUPE will return to work October 4. Regular programs and services will gradually resume over the coming days. An updated Service Disruption Notice will be circulated following ratification of the agreements.
