What vaccination activities are taking place in HPEC?
- Special clinics for eligible youth are running until June 12! Book as soon as possible at hpepublichealth.ca/vaccine-booking/ to get your first and second dose before the end of the summer! These clinics are offering the Pfizer vaccine, which is currently the only COVID-19 vaccine that has been authorized by Health Canada for use in individuals aged 12-17.
- Individuals age 80 and over are now eligible to book their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine earlier than the extended four-month interval. Those 70 years of age or older will be eligible to book second dose appointments starting during the week of June 14. All other populations previously eligible for an accelerated dose remain eligible. Eligible groups can book or accelerate second dose appointments through the provincial booking site at Ontario.ca/bookvaccine or by calling 1-833-943-3900. Please remember that eligibility to book does not guarantee an earlier appointment will be available. Spaces remain limited and HPEPH is only able to administer the amount of vaccine we receive each week.
- Individuals who received a first dose in HPEPH between March 1 – 16 (and do not already have a second dose appointment) are currently being contacted by HPEPH, their FHT, or CHC to book a second dose appointment. Please do NOT call HPEPH or your health care provider to book your second dose appointment.
- Local pharmacies are now offering first doses of Pfizer vaccines to those 12 and over and Moderna vaccines to those 18 and over. Some pharmacies are also offering AstraZeneca second doses for those who received AstraZeneca on March 10 or later, at a 12-week interval.
- On June 1, 2021, NACI released their recommendations for COVID-19 vaccine interchangeability, or “mixed vaccine schedules”:
- Persons who received a first dose of the AstraZeneca/COVISHIELD vaccine may receive either AstraZeneca/COVISHIELD vaccine or an mRNA vaccine (Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna) for their second dose, unless contraindicated.
- Persons who received a first dose of an mRNA vaccine (Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna) should be offered the same mRNA vaccine for their second dose. If the same mRNA vaccine is not readily available or unknown, another mRNA vaccine can be considered interchangeable and should be offered to complete the vaccine series
Who is currently eligible for first-dose vaccination?
- Individuals 12 and older
- Community clinics are continuing in Belleville, Quinte West, Picton, Madoc Township and Bancroft. All individuals aged 12 or older are now eligible to book through the provincial booking site at Ontario.ca/bookvaccine or by calling 1-833-943-3900. If no clinics are available (greyed out on calendar) please check back regularly. Follow HPEPH on Facebook and Twitter, as HPEPH will post when new clinics are added.
- Anyone currently eligible for a first dose of COVID-19 vaccination at HPEPH community clinics, who does not have a first dose appointment booked, can register on HPEPH’s standby list for the opportunity to be called in for a last minute appointment. Every week from Friday at 4 p.m. to the following Friday at 12 p.m. a form will be posted on our website. Sign up using your name, email and other required information, and select the clinic location(s) that you will be able to get to with 30 minutes notice. Selection for the standby appointments will be based on prioritization. It’s not about being the first person to sign up during this timeframe.
Who is currently eligible for an accelerated second dose?
- Most people will receive an appointment for their second dose approximately 16 weeks after the first.
- The following groups qualify for shortened second dose intervals:
- Individuals 80 years of age and older
- Residents of LTC and Retirement Homes
- Hematopoietic stem cell transplant recipients
- Organ transplant recipients
- Stable, active treatment* for malignant hematologic disorders and nonhematologic malignant solid tumor
- Dialysis patients
- Indigenous adults and their household members
- If you have received a first dose of the vaccine and do not have a second appointment you will be contacted when it is time to book your second dose appointment, OR you can book your second dose on the provincial booking site if you qualify for an accelerated second dose.
