Confirmed COVID-19 cases at You Make Me Smile Dental Centre in Trenton

Hastings and Prince Edward Counties/Oct. 14, 2020

Today, Dr. Piotr Oglaza, Medical Officer of Health and CEO at Hastings Prince Edward Public Health (HPEPH) is advising the public of two linked COVID-19 cases and the potential of a low risk exposure at You Make Me Smile Dental Centre, 96 Division St. in Trenton, ON.

HPEPH is investigating and following up directly with those considered to be at a higher risk of exposure. You Make Me Smile Dental Centre is cooperating fully with the HPEPH investigation. The Trenton dental centre voluntarily closed their business on October 7 and informed patients and visitors to the clinic about the cases. The office will remain closed until Oct. 21, 2020.

HPEPH requires anyone who has visited You Make Me Smile Dental Centre between September 28 and October 6 to self-monitor and to get tested for COVID-19 if symptoms develop. Once tested, you are required to remain in self-isolation for 14 days from the date of your visit to the Dental Centre, regardless of test results.

While HPEPH does not typically disclose the location of COVID-19 cases in order to protect individuals’ privacy, this information is disclosed when needed in order to meet public health objectives such as reducing the risk of further transmission.

“The well-being of individuals who sought services at You Make Me Smile Dental Centre and preventing the spread of COVID-19 in our community, are our top priorities,” said Dr. Oglaza. “It is incredibly important that impacted individuals isolate immediately and seek testing as directed by public health in order to prevent further local transmission of COVID-19.” Information about where you can get tested can be found at hpePublicHealth.ca. Please be aware that pre-registration is now required for testing.
