Hastings and Prince Edward Counties/August 4, 2021

Hastings Prince Edward Public Health (HPEPH) has been informed that an individual who has tested positive for COVID-19 attended a graduation event associated with Bayside Secondary School held in Trenton on July 28, and two associated parties at private residences in Stirling on July 28 and July 29.

All individuals who were at the graduation event associated with Bayside Secondary School in Trenton on July 28, and/or parties in Stirling on July 28 and July 29:

  • Are considered to be high-risk contacts of the case, unless fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (have received two (2) doses of a Health Canada approved vaccine, with the second dose on or before July 14, 2021)
  • Are considered low-risk contacts of the case if fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (have received two (2) doses of a Health Canada approved vaccine, with the second dose on or before July 14, 2021) AND have no symptoms.
  • High-risk contacts MUST:
    • self-isolate immediately, leaving isolation only for the purpose of testing or to seek medical care.  When getting tested provide investigation number 2238-2021-45004 to the testing centre.
    • Stay in isolation up to and including August 12, 2021, even if test results are negative.
  • Low-risk contacts are:
    • Advised to seek testing. Provide investigation number 2238-2021-45004 to the testing centre.
    • Not required to isolate unless symptoms develop or they test positive for COVID-19.
    • Advised to monitor for symptoms until August 12, 2021. If symptoms develop, isolate at home and away from others, and seek testing again, even if you were negative the first time.

While HPEPH does not typically disclose the location of COVID-19 cases in order to protect individuals’ privacy, this information is disclosed when needed to meet public health objectives such as prompt notification of potential contacts and reducing the risk of further transmission. HPEPH is in the process of identifying and contacting the identified high-risk contacts related to this case. All high-risk contacts will be instructed by HPEPH to self-isolate immediately and only leave isolation to get tested in order to protect the community and stop the spread of COVID-19.

“This pandemic is not over and everyone has a role to play in preventing another wave of COVID-19. I urge anyone who is eligible to be vaccinated to get two doses of vaccine as soon as possible,” said Dr. Piotr Oglaza, Medical Officer of Health and CEO at HPEPH.

Vaccination is the best and safest way to protect yourself, and those you love from the threat of serious illness and death related to the virus. HPEPH is offering walk-in vaccine appointments in Belleville, Bancroft and Picton throughout August. For further details visit hpePublicHealth.ca/vaccine-booking/
